A Grimoire is simply a Wiccan Recipe book. Your own personal encyclopedia of information such as Charms, Incantations, Spells, Drawings, Pictures, Recipes, Potions & Magical Rites – so in all it’s your textbook of Magic. The earliest known Grimoire’s found by Archeologists were on clay stone tablets dating between the 4th and 5th centuries BC.

The Book is treated by each Wiccan as a Secret Journal of self discovery where you keep a record of the spells and rituals that you perform, and the ingredients and tools you use. For a Kitchen Witch or Green Witch – it’s all these things combined with family traditional cookbook recipes or Herbal Alchemist notes (for Wildcrafting, gardening & planting) and methods, and often now with our new technology…pictures.

Chose a sturdy well bound book, or loose if you want to remove or add pages as you will be using this book every day. Date your entries in your book – I like to have a date so I can repeat the same traditional spells or recipes year after year. I include moon phases and astrological data, like the Harvest Moon & Blood Moon phases for example. I create special recipes to celebrate these events, the fresh ingredients that are available at that time of the year. The foods I created that celebrate these events, the goddesses associated with certain dates, the best crystals and gemstones to use, and so on. Keeping all these things in a log book like a Grimoire will only help make your life simpler. For each year you will know exactly what you did, what works for you and how to keep doing it year after year. Write down your intention for doing the spell. Be sure to describe your results and reactions, along with any thoughts, feelings, or experiences you deem important. But most of all have fun doing it and put love and magic in your pages!

Isn’t a grimoire used to also create spells and incantations?

First off, I just want to thank you for this website! The time and effort you have taken into compiling these pages is definitely appreciated, for sure. As some one who is attempting to learn as much as possible as I go forward, all of this information has been quite informative for me!
