A word from Aldora…”Holistic Medicine can be dangerous!” Please use our Recipe’s carefully.  Some herbs may be harmful to pregnant women, or types of medical conditions… Holistic & alternative medicine should be researched and studied fully before ingesting any herbal recipes.

Aromatherapy has been a staple in spiritual practices for thousands of years. Many Wiccans practice Witchcraft, some might make potions, elixirs, infusions, tinctures and some may not. It’s up to the individual solitary witch or the coven.

If you believe the herbs have energy, you might mix a potion just to keep in a bottle to dab some on yourself when you need that energy (health, courage) or when you want to draw something to you (money, love) or to repel something you don’t want and to protect you (negativity, illness). This Infusion of herbs only becomes a potion when the energy, purpose and spells are added. You must have a good understanding of how the potion is suppose to work, both scientifically and spiritually. Use only properly stored herbs, as any that are over a year old have lost a lot of their potential.

By reciting spells and sending energy into the herbs, your raising energy from the natural items you are using. Largely, though, they work on a psychological level (aromatherapy, color, scent, etc., which has an effect on the brain). I personally don’t believe there is white magic or black magic, it is the intent behind the spell that causes it to be negative or positive.

Some people practice magic timing it with moon phases because they believe the moon, sun, stars or planets have different energies and influences, so they can help (or hinder) your spell. A new moon might be chosen if you are starting a new spell, while a waning moon might be chosen if you are trying to banish something.

I use many of these herbs for both spiritual and medicinal properties. However, I have a question about Clove: did you say it attracts the “opposite sex” because of an assumption of hetero-normalcy, or because it ONLY works to attract the opposite sex? (I am lesbian and legitimately curious).

Hello Aldora, I was going through the list of medicinal uses for herbs and spices, I could not find one for my cat that has bladder inflammation, she has been seen by her vet, for various tests and everything is good, except she has an inflammation of the bladder, results in blood in her urine. Do you recommend Goldenseal, or is there something that can help her to relieve these symptoms. Thank you.

    • Aldora says:

None of the list of herbs and spices were prepared for any use other than humans. Nothing was tested on animals. You would have to find a vet that treats naturally or can offer recommendations. The only other Herbs that may be of benefit in treating an inflamed bladder include:Echinacea, Goldenseal, Marshmallow root, Alfalfa, Celery, Yarrow and parsley. As far as diet goes, add cranberries to your morning meal. Get lots of vitamins C, A, and E, along with adequate zinc. And finally, add foods rich in bioflavonoids to your meals every day.But whether or not any of them are safe to treat an animal – I do not know, so do so at your own risk. (or for this matter your pets risk?) Good luck, Aldora 🙂

What is the best substitute for poppy seeds? I’m making a potion for invisibility this new moon and I can’t find many of the ingredients! So far I have
    Slippery Elm = Clove
    Myrrh = Orange Peel
    Dill Weed = Oregano
    Any suggestions or changes?

    • Aldora says:

Hi Starr, depending on who wrote the potion and what it is used for I cannot suggest any substitute’s. Aldora

  4. simon says:

Thanks for your reply, I was wondering the same thing with the opposite sex!
Awesome website and very insightful information.

  5. Aldora says:

HI Alaina – sorry but I don’t suggest a quick fix potion as that type of thing solves nothing – you need to fix the underlying problem of the depression. Encourage healthy alternatives to help with his heavy side, go for walks and connect in ways that gets him out for physical activity. Those things will help fuel positive feelings to help with the depression. Good luck, Aldora

  6. Aldora says:

A tea with catnip, peppermint and raw ginger should do the trick – sweeten with honey. Good luck, Aldora 😉

  7. Roman says:

Hello! I’ve found so far, you are fairly one of the most useful sites here, and your Apothecary and such is very informative! I’m not fairly new to as I am, a Pagan, I’m not new to Paganism itself, but I am new to brewing and magic itself. I’ve never really practiced such, as I haven’t been able to. But as of now, I’m interested in beginning on brewery, and my friend is a very deep insomniac, to the point that he goes on for days without sleep. He’s tried many things, but to no avail! I was wondering if there would be anything of a more magickal property, such as a potion or brew I could create to help him. Any mixture recommendations?

    – Roman

    • Aldora says:

Hi Roman, sleep and insomnia unfortunately are hard to treat. The herbs associated with it are dangerous and can be habit forming if used over long periods of time. I prefer to try and treat the underlying situation as to WHY he’s not getting any sleep. Perhaps look at factors that are going on in his daily life that would eliminate the everyday stressors. Good luck, Aldora

  8. Tessa says:

I have to tell you I love your site! My nana had a garden and a room dedicated to drying and unfortunately I could never be bothered to learn what each was good for as a child. Now that I am grown I have started trying to use more natural approach like she did for everything and your site has been the most helpful so far.

  9. PaganFey says:

For spells, can you use cooking spices instead of the actual plant?

  10. Aldora says:

HI Trenton, Make sure you do your research about quantities of each herb, and if they react with any medication she is currently taking. The best herbs to use for anxiety are Passion flower, Valerian root, Chamomile, Peppermint & Lemon Balm. St. John’s Wort will aid in depression which is linked with anxiety. Good luck, Aldora

  11. Leanne Smith says:

Hi do you have a spell for tinnitus please

    • Aldora says:

I wish I did – I have Tinnitus and I find the only thing that will relieve it is concentrating on breathing and meditating. To make it completely stop if it’s only in one ear – is to plug your other ear and you will hear NOTHING…ahhh. But usually only works when you plug your ear with your finger and you can’t go around like that all day, now can you? I wish I could do better Leanne, sometimes it can drive you absolutely mad. Stress makes it worse, hence meditation….good luck, Aldora 🙂

  12. Elizabeth Schwab says:

    Hi Aldora!
I would love to know how I can make a Wealth potion? I would bless my business that I started last month.

    • Aldora says:

Hi Elizabeth – I’m not one to make potions for things like that. What I can suggest is CITRINE – This mineral is an excellent money stone, also known as a shopkeepers stone, this stone is said to bring business if put in the cashbox of a shop or money if carried on your person. My husband put a citrine gemstone in his cash register box the day he built his shop and business has grown to where he can’t keep up. Another gemstone you could add to your business is MALACHITE. You can look both stones up in my gemstone section http://kitchenwiccan.com/witchs-cupboard/properites-of-gemstones/ good luck, Aldora

    • Aldora says:

Hi Roz – I had them with pregnancy myself and if they get bad enough you do need medical help and possibly get them banded. The results are worth is as there is nothing at that point that will naturally help. Good luck, Aldora

  20. Shaun says:

Hi aldora! I am new to the practice and was just wondering if you have any herbs or ideas to use in potions to strengthen relationships? My partner and I have been 5 yrs strong and are in a fantastic place, I just want to keep it in this beautiful state. Not so much binding us together, but just build more on an emotional level.
    Thanks in advance!

    • Shaun says:

I understand all of that completely. I just wanted us to make our first potion together and wanted it to follow my last post. We thought it would be fun! But thank you!

    • Shaun says:

I guess what I’m after is something of a ‘happy home ‘ potion. Something to make and place like a symbol or decoration to resonate love and joy that we put into it. Surely there are herbs and such to strengthen those to make them burst 😀

Hello Aldora, my teenage, first year of college Son acts like he hates me. He has pretty much stopped talking to me and ignores me. Probably because of the yelling I have to do after I ask him or his brother to do something multiple times. It’s like pulling teeth to get any answers out of him. The older he gets the worse it gets. Do you know of anything that can possibly help?

Do you have any recipes for useful potions anywhere. I want to see how effective they can be and what better way to find out than experiment! Hi Aldora,
I first want to say, I love your sight and it’s been really helpful. Do you have anywhere I can look for potion recipes and the methods used to make them? It would be my next into becoming a Witch. I was also wondering if a male can become a Witch?

  35. George says:

Hi! I am a young Wiccan and I haven’t really tried making natural remedies, such as balms and elixirs, but I like cooking a lot. Today I came across a recipe about making your own vanilla extract using vanilla and vodka and it made me think that I could start exploring the path of crafting my own natural solutions to sicknesses, etc. I have a question though, should I use the herbs and spices I have in my kitchen for this work? I live in the countryside and have a lot of plants in my garden and some herbs as well but I also have lots of them store bought in containers and use them for making food. Is there a problem in using that kind of stuff for spiritual work? Thanks!

How to repel and get rid of a human negative presence? Even after filing a divorce and contacting Law enforcement, I can’t seem to get rid of my husband after putting up with 23yrs of infidelity, lies, and manipulation. He won’t leave my home! I’ve smudged with sage, I’ve told him to leave, my daughters have also. I’ve been in counseling for years and I’ve kicked him out but because we live in a community property state he’s allowed to stay here. I’ve already moved from our last property and I still can’t get rid of him.

What a wonderful site! Thank you for this incredible resource.

I am looking for herbs/oils I can use to create a powerful daily elixir to help restore my health. It has weakened dramatically from years of terrible psychic attacks and I now need weekly treatments at my hematologist’s for severe anemia (the cause of which they cannot find, of course). I believe it is actually due to black/blood magic hexes by a cousin and her boyfriend, who met me 4 years ago and smeared an unknown herbal balm on my hand that caused my skin to break out in a scaly rash just hours later and took the use of several conventional medications over several days to treat.

My health has deteriorated alarmingly since then, and protection spells don’t last long enough to help me recover. This comes from a place of jealousy and anger over positive attention from her family at a reunion over my physical appearance and success, and not something I did to her. I cannot make amends or find any other means to stop her, and as a white magic practitioner I will not resort to responding with the same kind of evil she deserves. The rule of 3 does not deter her either – since her first psychic attacks, she was diagnosed with, and is battling a terrible disease herself, ironically with the extreme version of the symptoms that have been sickening me (but I don’t have the disease). We have no direct contact but she is fixated on me and follows me through her parents and siblings on social media (which is unavoidable) – at this point, I’m hoping she forgets about me and moves on to someone else. In the meantime, I’m trying everything I can to strengthen and protect myself in a good and love-focused way.

I hope you can please help guide me to the right herbs/oils I can use (with crystals) to make very strong daily elixir that can help restore my health to the way it was before this nightmare began.

(PS, I’m so sorry this is so long!)
